There’s something very special about this corner of Spain – a feeling that things haven’t changed that much over the centuries, that the land is still alive and wild, the towns and whitewashed villages untouched by mass tourism. It’s unlike other parts of Andalucía, a protected, forest-covered haven that suits slow travel.  - Guardian Travel August 2024

The Yellow House nestles in the glorious Sierra de Aracena Natural Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Although only an hour from Seville you will be in a different world where the pace is slow and food local and seasonal.  You will be in the pretty whitewashed town of Higuera de la Sierra, where the Yellow House stands proudly right in the middle of the town. There are 3 good restaurants and a few tapas bars and cafes all within walking distance – our favourite is Jacaranda which serves seasonal Spanish food with a twist…but, you will of course find your own special eating place whilst staying with us…… for shopping there is a supermarket, mini-market and farmers market where you can buy just caught fish and fresh, seasonal produce.  There is also a lovely municipal swimming pool with café just a short walk away – it is open between the end of June and middle of September.  Take a picnic with you!

The Three Kings procession of Higuera de la Sierra has been travelling its streets on the evening of the 5th January since 1918, traditionally depicting scenes from the Nativity story (the visit of the Magi).  Watch the villagers transform themselves into Biblical characters!

For those looking for some lovely local delicacies or souvenirs to take home, fabulous Aracena is only 15 minutes away with its plethora of independent shops. This charming town offers much to the visitor - stock up on handcrafted pottery and textiles, artisan confectionary, locally produced honey, prized hams, wild mushrooms, organic products and home-made cakes from the famous confectioner  Confiteria Rufino Patisseriehas which has provided the town with their delicious handmade chocolates since 1875!   You can even purchase a (now trendy!) wicker donkey head to take home with you! The town itself is dominated by a majestic Church and is famous for its spectacular limestone caves – Gruta de las Maravillas which are underneath the castle hill.

There is a direct bus service from Seville to Aracena which takes around an hour.

The Iberian Peninsula is a land of incredible contrast - from sandy beaches lapped by cool Atlantic waters to verdant forests and mountain ranges.  Join a mushroom hunting tour.........hire a mountain bike..........enjoy nature walks.......just ask and we will help to tailor make your holiday.
